Florence Forest is a naive, 16-year old wanna-be surfer chick with
a secret: whenever she sees a spinning object, she becomes alter
ego Ann Bowman the S&M Queen.
Unfortunately for Florence, Ann's appearance always coincides with
the next episode of a series of mysterious beachside murders, and
no one knows what the killer's motive is, or who the next victim
will be. But never fear, the LA Sheriff Department's first drag
queen homicide detective, Monica Stark, is on the case... Sun, sand
and S&M set to a surfbilly soundtrack, Psycho Beach Party kicks
off this year's TLGFF with a dose of high-camp horror. This adaptation
of the off-Broadway hit is a melange of movie genres from the fifties,
sixties and seventies, and casts Thomas Gibson (Greg Montgomery
in Dharma and Greg) in the role of Kanaka the surfer. Sometimes
suspenseful, rather nonsensical and always crazy, this special premiere
of Psycho Beach Party, complete with guest appearances by Simone
Fukayuki and a glamorous drag entourage, is simply essential viewing
this summer.
