Walking through the grounds of her all-girl high school one day,
Mina finds a diary containing the private thoughts of sportsgirl
Shiun and the sophisticated and beautiful Hyoshin. Hyoshin doesn't
mix well with her fellow students, and it's even rumored that she's
hav-ing an affair with one of the male teachers. In fact, nothing
could be further from the truth: Hyoshin and Shiun are lovers. That
same day, Hyoshin commits suicide. Hoping to unravel the mystery,
Mina begins to read the diary, and comes across the phrase memento
mori ("remember you must die"). She soon finds herself surrounded
by mysterious events as the whole school falls into a state of panic.
More than just a spine-tingling horror story, Memento Mori is a
careful psychological depiction of life at a girls' high school
and a moving portrayal of a lover's obsession, and proves well why
contemporary Korean cinema has audiences worldwide under its spell.
